Bayan Founas
Bayan Founas, an Algerian-American from Hamtramck, is an educator in Detroit and the founder of Writing 4 Freedom—a space where social activism meets poetry for youth artists. She teaches high school English, is a writer-in-residence with InsideOut Literary Arts, and is a 2020 Detroit Educator Alumni Fellow. Her artistic vision is to spotlight her narrative as a first-generation Muslim woman sharing her spiritual journey through her art. She is a founding member of two diverse poetry collectives: The Guild and WISDOM. In 2018, Founas self-published her first book of poetry, Diary of a Daughter in Diaspora, available on Amazon and Kindle.
