2024 KRESGE ARTIST FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION CYCLE BEGINS
Artists residing in Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb county can apply for the $40,000 no strings attached fellowship starting Dec. 1, 2023. The latest application guidelines are available now.
In 2024, there will be 35 awards in total—25 Kresge Artist Fellowships at $40,000 and 10 Gilda Awards at $5,000. Fellowships and Gilda Awards are divided between the two categories—Live Arts and Film & Music—based on the number of applications received in each category.
“Unrestricted awards to artists are an investment in the open exchange of ideas and perspectives—a critical component of navigating complexity and illuminating new possibilities,” said Christina deRoos, director of Kresge Arts in Detroit. “We appreciate The Kresge Foundation’s exceptional, sustained commitment to artists, whose contributions are central to the past, present, and future of Detroit.”
LIVE ARTS
Choreography, Comedy, Dance, Performance Art, Playwriting, Storytelling, Theatre Directing, and Interdisciplinary Work
FILM & MUSIC
Animation, Film Directing, Music Composition, Music Performance, Screenwriting, Sound Art, and Interdisciplinary Work
While the number of Kresge Artist Fellowships has varied from year to year since the program’s inception, the eligibility criteria and selection criteria have remained constant: a demonstrated track record of artistic achievement and high-quality work; the potential to grow and advance in one’s career; and the potential to reflect, enhance, or impact communities within metro Detroit.
The $40,000 fellowships will continue to include professional development offerings and a commissioned short film highlighting the artist’s work.
