Kresge Arts in Detroit is partnering with the Detroit Free Press for the world premiere of the annual “Spotlight Detroit” film series featuring the latest cohort of fellows. Thirteen Detroit filmmakers collaborated with the 2023 Kresge Artist Fellows in Literary and Visual Arts to create 19 dynamic short films exploring the artists’ creative practices, expressions, and journeys as artists and humans. The series culminates with a vignette of 2024 Kresge Eminent Artist, Nora Chapa Mendoza.

Each year, Kresge Arts in Detroit produces films celebrating the latest cohort of Kresge Artist Fellows. Films from past years have gone on to win Michigan Emmys in addition to being screened and awarded at film festivals across the world.

Filmmakers:

Emmanuel Afolabi, Katie Barkel, Phillip Carrel, Zachary Cunningham, Mark Foster, Gold House Media, Erik Paul Howard, Desmond Love, Danielle Eliska Lyle, Gianluca Petrazzi, Reel Clever Films, Toko Shiiki, Julia Yezbick

Each of the 19 short films in the series runs between three to four minutes. The screening will last approximately one hour. This event is free and open to the public.

The film series is produced by Kresge Arts in Detroit and 7 Cylinders Studio.
