Flying Cardboard Theater
Flying Cardboard Theater (FCT) founding members, Lindsay McCaw and Jason Hicks, spent their twenties and thirties learning, traveling, and performing with puppet companies in the US and abroad. Both worked for the Bread and Puppet Theater, had their own puppet companies that toured together several times, and collaborated many times over the years. McCaw moved to Detroit in 2013, worked as an artist and puppet builder, and hoped to eventually form a puppet company. In 2020, Hicks, who had been working as a puppeteer, puppet builder, and carpenter in New York, moved to Detroit and began working with McCaw. Since forming FCT, McCaw, Hicks, and many other collaborators have made traditional puppet shows, founded the Detroit Cantastoria Festival, and hosted music, art, and theater events at their workshop at The Hive, located in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Corktown.
