Lauren Williams
Through visual and experiential media, Lauren Williams’ work challenges racialized oppression and enthusiastically imagines otherwise. Williams came to Detroit and her current creative practice in 2019, after an early career working in economic justice-centered policy and research in Washington, D.C. She now examines power and oppression through mediums like printmaking, paper weaving, installation, illustration, and book design, seeking new modalities for shifting narratives and influencing culture in ways that only creative expression can. Williams’ work has been showcased at Red Bull Arts Detroit (2021), the Jacob Lawrence Gallery at the University of Washington (2022), and Wa Na Wari in Seattle (2022).
