Cherise Morris

Cherise Morris is a Detroit-based essayist, poet and spiritualist born and raised in rural Virginia. Her work has appeared in publications such as The Iowa Review, Longreads, Fourth Genre, Winter Tangerine and elsewhere. Her essays have been recognized as notable works in Best American Essays 2018 and Best American Essays 2019. Most recently, Morris was a finalist for the 2019 Black Warrior Review Nonfiction Prize. The first installment of her ritual-performance based series, Visions of the Evolution: Revelation I, debuted in June 2019. She is currently at work on her manuscript, Visions of the Evolution: In Search of a New Humanity, and an accompanying tour of ritual-performances.
