Marc Brewer, born and raised in Detroit, began dancing socially as a college student. His ever-evolving practice has ranged from dance performer, educator, and choreographer to cultural ambassador, event producer, and community organizer. Brewer specializes in dances of the African Diaspora, placing a historical lens on Black partner dances and accompanying rhythms as they have developed and been popularized around the globe (Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil, Detroit, etc). Rigorous study of dance through performance, as well as social and academic lenses, has aided his journey. Brewer’s ultimate aim is to foster cultural, physical, emotional, mental, and social wellness through dance.
